RICHARD HUGHES – Chapter 1 – HOMOEOPATHY: IT’S NATURE AND ORIGIN Complete Notes, Easy Understandable, PDF

Homoeopathy has evolved through different schools of thought. Among the important contributors to its philosophy is Richard Hughes, a British homoeopathic physician who played a crucial role in shaping scientific homoeopathy.

This chapter helps us understand Hughes’ approach, his differences from classical Hahnemannian philosophy, and his contribution to practical homoeopathy.

Who Was Richard Hughes?

Richard Hughes (1836–1902) was an English homoeopath who believed that homoeopathy should be practiced in a scientific, rational, and practical manner.

While he respected Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy, he did not blindly follow every statement from the Organon. Instead, he tried to:

  • Interpret homoeopathy scientifically
  • Reduce unnecessary mysticism
  • Emphasize pathology and clinical observation
  • Use medicines in lower potencies

He belonged to what we call the Pathological School of Homoeopathy.
